Harry Bird made an enquiry about attending Grantham Stud Poultry Farm for training in poultry farming on 26 May 1919 with approval eventually being given on 8 August 1919 for him to attend. On 1 November 1919, he enquired about obtaining a block at Chipping Norton or Hillview asking, ‘are these open to the ballot or the preferential right system (as it) applies’? He was allocated a block at Hillview taking possession on 10 May 1920. The block of six acres was in the County of Cumberland, Parish of St Luke, Parramatta Land District.
