William John Cox’s block was in the County of Urana, Parish of Sumner, Urana Land District and consisted of 900 acres.  The block was a part of Urangeline Soldiers’ Group Purchase. In March 1922, Cox applied for four tons of chaff to feed his horses  as the grass on his property had been burnt by a bush fire. He had no crops in during 1921 as he had come to the settlement too late to do so. In March he had £45 left out of his advance and asked the Department for permission to use this for seed wheat which was agreed to.[1]

Consent was given to transfer the property from Cox to John Thomas Swannel of Osborne, subject to the discharge of Cox’s liability in respect of his advance, concurrence with the Water Conservation and Irrigation Commission, payment of the 1924 instalments and interest owing and stamp duty. [2] These conditions were to be undertaken within three months.

Even though he requested an extension of time to make his repayments, Cox paid back his advance in full on 20 March 1925.[3]
