Frederick Charles French applied to join a Soldiers’ Group Settlement on 18 November 1918. At this time he gave his occupation as station hand with ten years experience on the land.[1] He was allotted Blocks 107 and 119 at Macquarie Vale Soldiers’ Settlement, Kelso and was judged to be medically fit to grow vegetables.[2] He took up occupation on 29 November 1918.[3]

An extract from a weekly report for the period ended 18 September 1920 stated that French was ill in Randwick Hospital with neuritis and had left his brother-in-law in charge of his block during his absence.[4] He returned to his block on 6 November 1920.[5]
