Edye Robertson took up a Settlement Purchase No. 1920/1 consisting of 350 acres. The property was located in the Parish of Yuglamah, Country of Auckland Eden Land District. He applied for the Advance of £625 and intended taking up dairying.    Due to his poor health which was the result of ongoing war disabilities and the heavy financial out-put for hired labour, he struggled on the farm eventually passing away 21 September 1926.  His wife Jessie who eventually took over the property was registered as the absolute owner.

Despite early on, being able to handle the property she too found it difficult to continue.  She brought in a share-farmer and his wife who ran the property for her.[1] She was not living on the property but with her family, not even drawing a living or other personal expenses from the farm receipts.[2] On 2 July 1930, Jessie wrote to the Department of Lands requesting information about selling the property stating ‘that due to labour and rabbit problems’, she was unable to continue.[3]
