Frank Sanders owned a small block of land at Terrigal on which he wanted to carry out mixed farming and to have an orchard.  He had purchased the block himself ‘with difficulty and hoped to have clean title’.[1]  When writing to W.M. Hughes asking for financial assistance (the Advance) he stated that he was the son of the late Edward E Sanders  …  (whom) my mother informs me, you and my father sat in conference on occasions back in the old days’.[2]

His block consisted of only ten acres in the Gosford Land District Parish of Kincumber, County of Northumberland.[3]  He stated on his application for the loan on 2 April 1921, that he needed the money to build a house and for clearing five acres of land.[4]  After writing at least two more letters, his Advance was approved on 2 August 1921.[5]  Despite some light crops and arrears Sanders repaid his Advance in full on 11 July 1927.[6]
