[I] know nothing or very little of my future.

Venn wrote on 3 April 1920 requesting a block at Hillview Soldiers Group Purchase.  He was formerly at Grantham Stud Poultry Farm.  ‘I have been here over six months and know nothing or very little of my future beyond my hopes’.[1]

He was allotted Block 322  Hillview Settlement, Liverpool of 6 acres – County of Cumberland, Parish of St. Luke, Parramatta Land District taking possession on 3 May 1920 and commenced operations in the season of 1920.[2] Information on this settler is frustratingly scarce – we are still trying to establish if his ‘hopes’ were warranted.
