Before taking up his block Walter West stated that he had received training at the Queensland Agricultural College Gatton between January 1920 and August 1920.[1] Confirmation that he was to receive the block occurred on 4 June 1921. By this time it was believed that West

had gained a full knowledge of the hatching and rearing of chickens and the care of adult fowls.[2]

Portion 327 on Hillview Soldier Settlement was allocated to him. The block consisted of five acres and was in the County of Cumberland, Parish of St. Luke, Parramatta Land District.

Walter West was tried for with shooting with intent to murder his wife Jennifer Gladys West in 1922. He was not sent to prison.[3]

Walter West had applied for permission to transfer his block on 16 March 1922, his reasons for doing so stated as ‘family troubles’.[4] The block was subsequently transferred to his brother Frederick Harold West. On 20 August 1922, Walter West requested that he be given another soldier settlement block.[5] His request was refused.[6]
