William Hardie Smith applied for his advance on 6 January 1920.[1]   It was approved 7 January 1920.   He owned two blocks;   the first of 999 acres was in the County of White, Parish of Boral, Land District of Narrabri. The second of 498 ½ acres, was also in the County of White and Land District of Narrabri but in the Parish of Bohena.[2]

Due to the dry season and the fall in stock prices around July 1922, he was unable to pay the amount due, but was making arrangements with the Rural Bank to take over the loan.[3]    By 4 August 1922 his debt was fully liquidated and he  was judged to be a satisfactory settler.[4]
